Kitchen Knife
Kitchen Knife is a series of painted sculptures that confronts the pervasive violence impacting the lives of women worldwide. The kitchen knife serves as a metaphor in this body of work, symbolizing both the domestic sphere and the inherent danger it can harbor in situations of violence. By removing the knives from their traditional setting and transforming them, I reimagine their purpose and meaning, challenging their association with domesticity and recontextualizing them as objects of reflection and critique.
The materials used in this series draw inspiration from elements commonly associated with women and domestic spaces. Cut wallpaper adorned with floral designs, alongside intricate crochet loops, are painted and integrated into the sculptures. Through these transformations, Kitchen Knife invites viewers to confront the intersection of domesticity and violence in women's lives.
This body of work was made during my residency at The Feminist Art Conference in Toronto Island, Ontario.
